Frequently Asked Questions
1) What does it cost to use the Senior Center?
The use of the Senior Center is free of charge.  Lunch and certain classes require a small fee.

2) My Mom/Dad is in need of some services.  Is there anything out there?
The Outreach Worker, Tony Merenda from the Grafton Senior Center is very willing to sit down with a family or a caregiver to help with any concerns.  If he does not know an answer, he will certainly find it out for you.   Depending on the situation, including finances, there may be services available at very little cost, such as home care, errands, housekeeping, etc.  Elder Services of Worcester, along with two other agencies, have produced a valuable “CAREGIVER’S GUIDE”.  This book is free of charge at the Grafton Senior Center.  It is chocked with very helpful resources.  Please stop by or ask to have one mailed to you.  Meals on Wheels can also be delivered to a senior's door Monday through Friday.

3) How do I start taking the senior bus?
It’s easy!  Call the Grafton Senior Center and let us know your needs.  We will cheerfully accommodate you if at all possible. If you are over age 60 and are a Grafton resident, or you are a disabled Grafton resident of any age, you are eligible to use the WRTA senior bus.  We will gladly send you out some information on the scheduling as well as bus rules and regulations.  It will pick you up right in your driveway.  Call 508.839.9242 at least 48 hours in advance or as much as several weeks in advance to secure your ride. If you are wheelchair bound, a companion is required.  The Senior Center may also require a companion in other circumstances if deemed necessary.  Cost is $1.25 cents each way in Town and $1.50 to $1.75 each way out of Town.

4) How do I start coming to lunch at the Center?
Simply call 508.839.9242 by 10:00 AM two business days prior and let us know you would like to come to lunch.  We have available to you the month’s menu.  We will also introduce you around and show you the facility if you are not yet familiar with it.  We boast a warm, welcoming environment, and have as our goal your happiness here.  The meals are catered and brought here through a contract with the Worcester Age Center. The suggested donation (not required) for a meal is $2.00 for those over 60 and $4.00 for those under 60.

5) I still work full time.  Is the Senior Center open after normal hours?
Yes.  One night a week, Thursdays, the Senior Center is open until 8:30 pm. You can join the pitch party, or come down for the TV, pool table, foozball, air hockey and friendship.  The Red Hatters may also begin meeting at that time.  With so many seniors working past age 60, the trend is for senior centers to be open during evenings and weekends.  The Town of Grafton isn’t able to commit to that right now, but in the future it is certainly a consideration.

6) I am an active person.  I always thought that Senior Centers are for old people.  What is there for me?
The Grafton Senior Center is for active, spirited individuals.  You will find no one in a rocking chair knitting here.  Our weekly activities are varied for everyone from their 60’s to their 90’s.  Our Body and Soul class is so much fun, it is hard to believe it is exercise. We even offer tap/ jazz, occasional line dancing, Tai Chi, yoga, and Jog Your Noggin! We have special events, like a summer picnic, where we've been known to have a massive water gun fight.  We often offer new programs so stay tuned.  Our day trips are very popular also.    In addition, tell us what you would like to see offered here, we very well might be able to do it!

7) I would like information on the Are You Okay? Program (RUOK?)
The Grafton Police Department has a antomated service available where they will call you daily at a time you designate to check on your well being.  If you do not answer the phone, it will call back in just a few minutes.  If you do not answer the second time, emergency services will be dispatched to your home.  If you would like an application, there is one available on the Grafton Police Department's website, or here at the Senior Center.
